We have already stated that the Neapolitan Mastiff is a no nonsense, very serious guard dog.
But in spite of it’s huge size and the wrinkles it looks kind of gentle..sometimes.
The Cane Corso on the other hand, with cropped ears looks so much meaner.
Ear cropping is a diminishing practice. Those against cruelty to animals claim it is cruel.
Tail docking also.
But several breeds of dogs thrive on the better looks afforded by ear cropping or tail docking.
A Doberman without cropped ears and a docked tail will look almost ordinary.
Same with a Rottweiler.
Even more dramatic is a Neapolitan Mastiff with ears cropped short.
Better still when the tail is docked. Then it looks like a small Rhinoceros.
When used for some types of duties,it is necessary to make the Neapolitan less vulnerable, and ear docking is one way to achieve this.
When done in infancy by a good Vet Doctor, both processes do not in any way amount to cruelty and the fad may begin to catch up with owners of this regal, massive guard and war dog breed in Nigeria.
