IS AN AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER SAFE IN NIGERIAN HOMES?
IS AN AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER USEFUL IN NIGERIAN HOMES?
The American Pitt Bull Terrier continues to be a very difficult dog to understand.
It’s public image has not helped matters.
It’s out right ban in several countries has also not helped it’s reputation.
But severally the American Pitt Bull Terrier has been described as a human friendly dog.
Why then is it banned in several countries of the world including U.K?
1. To start with, let us again consider the size of the APBT.
It is about the size of a small African dog, only more muscular, more distinct, much more exotic.
Like comparing a Porsche 911 to a VW Bug.
The ideal size of the APBT as we saw in earlier articles is Weight: Males-16-29 kg for Males, and a height of 14 inches – as much as 24 inches.
Most are about 14 inches- 18 inches ideally. So it is not a threat by virtue of it’s size.
2. Intelligence-The APBT is intelligent enough NOT to be aggressive towards humans!
Presently the Police use it for narcotics and bomb detection as well as for border patrols.
Culled from Wikipedia-“The ignorance, lack of dog experience, and irresponsibility of some owners have caused this breed a lot of problems. Be that as it may, it doesn’t diminish the facts. These dogs are very intelligent and require very responsible, experienced owners who can provide an environment to survive the media frenzy.”
HOWEVER-The APBT has been used reversely as Police attack dogs and to guard narcotics.
3. Instincts-This is where the problems begin, the APBT is instinctively a fighting dog.
Not just a fighting dog but a PITT fighting dog meaning to fight in a pitt where escape is not possible and fights are unto death.
ALSO-the APBT has a terrible prey instinct. It will attack and and try to kill other pets around it including other dogs.
So in answer to the first question above-
CAN A BEGINNER COPE WITH AN AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER -(APBT)- IN NIGERIA?
The answer is that a beginner may not start with an APBT.
Best to start with a GSD(Alsatian) and progress to a DOBERMAN PINSCHER and then a ROTTWEILER unto to an APBT.
For the second question-
– IS AN AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER SAFE IN NIGERIAN HOMES?-
The answer is yes if the home owners have asked and learned how to handle an APBT.
For the third question-
– IS AN AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIER USEFUL IN NIGERIAN HOMES?
The answer is yes for the experienced home.
It will make a great companion for the family members as long as it is separated from other pets.
It is also a deadly defense to any threat to the home, and it’s small size makes it affordable to keep.
In conclusion the APBT is banned in some countries because unlike most other breeds, badly handled it is lethal.Deadly.Dangerous.
